You can have a hearty and delicious breakfast within 10 minutes with a few easy steps. To make apple cinnamon oatmeal, all you have to do is boil the oats in water, or milk of your choice.

Then you simply add flavor. The best flavors to compliment whole grain oats are vanilla, maple syrup (or brown sugar), cinnamon and nutmeg.

Oatmeal is also great with fruits of your liking and for this recipe, we’ll be using apples, but feel free to switch it up a few mornings out of the week and enjoy homemade oatmeal with blueberries, bananas, or strawberries instead. The pairings are endless!

If you’re adding fruit. the trick is to slightly cook them first, then add your oats, water and flavors last. Then let boil with a lid for about ten minutes and DONE!

I also like to top the oatmeal with pecans, sliced almonds, or walnuts – depending on the fruit. There’s nothing better than the added crunch of pecans with the apples and cinnamon.

Can Oatmeal Be Stored For Leftovers?

The short answer is, absolutely. Homemade oatmeal can be stored for leftovers.

In fact, I like to make a huge batch and save some for the following days.

To reheat this apple cinnamon oatmeal, all you have to do is add a splash of milk of your choice and reheat on the stove on low, or in the microwave for a about a minute.

Healthy Homemade Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal

Ingredients
  

FOR FRIED APPLES

  • 1 apple chopped
  • 1 tsp coconut oil extra virgin
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon

FOR OATMEAL

  • 1 cup Organic Rolled Oats
  • 2 cups almond milk
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 2 tsp maple syrup

Instructions
 

  • Start by chopping apples into cubes.
  • In a small pot, add the coconut oil and heat until slightly melted.
  • Add apples into pot and sprinkle with cinnamon. Simmer until softened for about 7-10 minutes.
  • In the same pot, add oats, milk and maple syrup. Whisk to combine.
  • Simmer oats for about 7-10 minutes, or until desired oatmeal consistency. Add more maple syrup and a sprinkle of cinnamon to preferred taste.
  • Pour into bowl and top with pecans and enjoy. (Optional)

Notes

Apples can be fried separately if that’s your preference. 
You can also fry extra apples to top the oatmeal, or have as a side later. 
Oatmeal can be stored in the fridge for up to 5 days. Just add a splash of milk, or water, to bowl when heating.
