Camping Themed Birthday Party Ideas for Kids
Planning a camping themed birthday party is such a fun way to bring the outdoors inside, especially when you want something playful, cozy, and full of adventure.

For my son’s second birthday, I created a sweet little camping birthday party inspired by our family trip to Great Wolf Lodge.

After spending time there surrounded by woodland details, lodge-style decor, water park fun, and that cozy camp feeling, I knew a camping party theme would be perfect for his birthday.

This party was full of campfire plates, log-inspired placemats, lanterns, pine trees, camping party favors, a cute birthday banner, a s’mores station, and a camping birthday cake.
It worked so well for a toddler birthday party, but these camping birthday party ideas would also be great for preschoolers, big kids, boys, girls, homeschool parties, summer birthdays, fall birthdays, and even a backyard camping party.

The best part is that you do not need to host this party outside.
I set everything up indoors and still created that cozy campsite feeling with a camping backdrop, glowing lanterns, campfire decorations, woodland table decor, and fun camping party supplies.

Camping Birthday Party Theme
A camping themed birthday party is one of those kids party themes that feels creative without being too complicated. You can make it rustic, cute, playful, or cozy depending on the decorations you choose.
For this party, I wanted the setup to feel like a little indoor campsite.
I used a camping tent backdrop, pine tree decorations, campfire centerpieces, lanterns, log placemats, fire-shaped plates, wood-look cups, and camping favor items like toy binoculars and canteens.
Luckily, I was able to get a bundle that included the backdrop and balloons. Then I found the camping party decoration set that came with the gingham tablecloth and wooden-looking placemats.

It gave the whole party a fun outdoor adventure feel while still being easy to set up at home.
I knew I had to add a little “campfire” detail, so these flamed shaped plates were perfect to add on top of the wooden placemats.
This theme is perfect for:
- Camping birthday party ideas for kids
- Toddler camping birthday party
- Second birthday party ideas
- Great Wolf Lodge inspired birthday party
- Woodland birthday party
- Outdoor adventure birthday party
- Campfire birthday party
- Summer birthday party for kids
- Fall birthday party for kids
- Boy birthday party ideas
- Gender neutral birthday party ideas

Camping Party Decorations
The decorations are what really made this camping party come together. I started with a large camping backdrop that featured a tent, trees, stars, and a nighttime outdoor scene. This instantly made the room feel like a cozy campsite.

From there, I added a green gingham tablecloth, which gave the table a picnic-style look.
Then I layered in campfire decorations, paper pine trees, glowing lanterns, and camping-themed party supplies.

Some of my favorite camping party decorations were:
- Tent backdrop
- Pine tree centerpieces
- Campfire centerpieces
- Mini lanterns
- Fire-shaped plates
- Log slice placemats
- Wood-look cups
- Green gingham tablecloth
- Campfire napkins
- Camping birthday banner
- Campfire balloon
- Green, brown, yellow, and orange balloons
The colors worked so well together. The green and brown gave the party that woodland feel, while the red, orange, and yellow made everything feel warm and campfire-inspired.

Camping Birthday Party Table Setup
The kids’ table was one of my favorite parts of the party. I wanted it to feel like the kids were sitting around a little pretend campfire.
Each place setting had a log slice paper placemat with a bright campfire plate on top. I added matching fire napkins, wood-look cups, and striped paper straws.
Down the center of the table, I used paper pine trees, glowing lanterns, camping canteens, toy binoculars, and campfire centerpieces.
The whole table felt playful and immersive, which is exactly what I wanted for a kids camping birthday party.

A few easy ideas for a camping party table setup:
Use a gingham tablecloth to make the table feel like a picnic or campsite meal. Add log placemats or wood-inspired chargers for a rustic touch.
Use fire-shaped plates or orange plates to bring in the campfire theme. Place mini lanterns down the center of the table to create a cozy glow.
Add toy binoculars, canteens, pine trees, or small camping props as table decor.
This type of setup is especially cute for a toddler camping birthday party because it feels fun and themed without needing complicated decorations.
Campfire Centerpiece Ideas
A campfire centerpiece is such a cute idea for a camping themed birthday party. I used red and orange flame decorations with small glowing lanterns to create a faux campfire look on the table.
This gave the party that nighttime camping feeling without using anything unsafe. It was also perfect for pictures because the little lanterns added such a warm glow.

You can create a simple campfire centerpiece using:
- Red, orange, and yellow tissue paper
- Battery-operated tea lights
- Mini lanterns
- Paper flames
- Faux wood pieces
- Cardboard campfire decorations
- Campfire balloons
- Brown paper rolls or paper towel tubes painted like logs
For a kids party, I love using pretend campfire decor because it gives all the cozy camping vibes while staying toddler-friendly.
Camping Birthday Banner and Backdrop
The birthday banner added such a cute focal point to the favor and cake table. I used a camping birthday banner with wood-style letters and outdoor adventure graphics like a backpack, tent, bear, lantern, compass, s’mores, and campfire.

Behind it, I used wood-tone panels to create a rustic background.
Then I styled the table with goodie bags, canteens, binoculars, lanterns, mini pine trees, a camping cake, and a starry night tablecloth.

This made the dessert and favor table feel like a full camping party backdrop, which is great if you want a dedicated area for birthday photos.
If you are planning a camping birthday party at home, I would definitely recommend creating one main party table. It can hold the cake, party favors, snacks, decorations, and a birthday banner all in one place.

Camping Birthday Cake
The camping birthday cake was simple but so cute for the theme. It had a rustic outdoor look with textured frosting on top, little trees, rock details, a green number two candle, and a Happy Birthday cake topper with campfire details.

It looked like a little woodland campsite, which was perfect for my son’s second birthday.
I initially ordered this cake from Walmart and although it is listed as an “ATV Themed Cake” I selected it because it was outdoorsy.
You may see some holes in the icing and that’s because the cake originally comes with a play toy truck on top – for this party, I took it off and placed my own topper. Just know the cake didn’t come with the holes at the top!

Camping birthday cake ideas can include:
- Pine tree cake toppers
- Campfire cake topper
- Graham cracker “dirt”
- Chocolate rocks
- Toy animals
- A tent topper
- A number candle
- A Happy Birthday camping cake topper
- Green and brown icing
- S’mores-inspired cake flavors
- Chocolate border for a rustic look
You could also do cupcakes with mini campfire toppers, s’mores cupcakes, bear cupcakes, trail mix cupcakes, or dirt pudding cups if you want something easier than a full birthday cake.

Camping Party Favors
The camping party favors were such a fun part of this setup. I used brown paper goodie bags with yellow, orange, and brown tissue paper to make them feel like little campfire bags.
Each bag had a “Let’s Go Camping” thank you tag and a cute camping sticker. I also thought these “Camp June” tags were so cute and personal to our birthday boy.

I also displayed toy binoculars and yellow canteens as part of the favor table. They doubled as decorations and take-home party favors, which is always a win.

Camping party favor ideas for kids:
- Toy binoculars
- Toy canteens
- Flashlights
- Glow sticks
- Compass toys
- Mini lanterns
- Camping stickers
- Trail mix bags
- S’mores kits
- Bug jars
- Nature scavenger hunt cards
- Camping coloring pages
- Bear or woodland animal toys
- Mini notebooks for “camp journals”
For toddler party favors, I like items that can be played with right away and also look cute on the party table. The binoculars and canteens were perfect for that.
I also purchased this bundle of party favors. It includes over 200 pieces and each guest can get a small notepad, a pencil, stickers, a compass, a flashlight (instant hit!), a pencil sharpener, an eraser and their own badge.

The S’mores Station
Since this was a camping birthday party, I knew I wanted to include s’mores. I set up a small s’mores station with marshmallows, graham crackers, chocolate, and an indoor s’mores maker.

This was such an easy way to bring the camping theme into the food. It also looked cute styled with fire plates, wood-look plates, and campfire balloons.
I loved adding this because s’mores instantly make any camping party feel more fun.
This flameless marshmallow roaster was perfect for our indoor party.

Camping Party Food
For food, I kept things simple and on theme. One of the fun little touches was serving veggie skewers on the fire-shaped plates. They matched the camping theme and looked so cute with the rest of the setup.
I also prepared some baked beans, steamed some crab legs in the oven, also shrimp, and cut a fruit platter.
The s’mores station was the main themed snack, and then the cake tied everything together for dessert.

Great Wolf Lodge Inspired Details
This party was inspired by our Great Wolf Lodge trip, but I did not try to copy the resort exactly. I just wanted to capture that cozy lodge feeling — the trees, the campfire colors, the adventure, and the family fun.

The camping backdrop, lanterns, canteens, binoculars, pine trees, and campfire decorations all helped bring that Great Wolf Lodge-inspired feeling home in a simple way.

We headed out the very next day and had a blast! I highly recommend a trip. You can read more about our previous stay here.
Final Thoughts
June’s camping themed second birthday party turned out so cute, and I love that it felt personal to our family. It was inspired by a real trip we took together, and it gave me a fun way to recreate that cozy camping feeling at home.
This theme was easy to set up indoors and worked so well for a toddler birthday. The campfire plates, log placemats, glowing lanterns, goodie bags, s’mores station, and camping birthday cake all made the party feel special without being too much.
It was such a sweet way to celebrate our little two-year-old, and I know this is one of those birthday themes I’ll always remember.
